South Austin ApartmentsSouth Austin encompasses a large area, an area filled with all kinds of eclectic communities and backgrounds. It has a rich history and to many people it feels more like the Austin of old, 15 years ago, before all the big tech companies found a home here in beautiful Austin. Whether this is good or bad is more of personal taste. I have lived in both areas of town, and both have their own unique feel to them. North Austin is definitely the better value, as South Austin Apartments on average are $100 more a month, as compared to North Austin Apartments. View apartment Deals of the Week in South Austin One of the major reasons for this price difference is because of the smaller inventory of South Austin apartments. One of the interesting things to note is this area apartments are typically pretty old; many communities were built in the 70s, meaning many South Austin apartments fall into the “C” or “B” quality category. A “C” property being an apartment that was typically built in the 70s with no W/D connections, no crown molding, no garden tubs, isn’t gated, and has the older dark colors on the inside, that were so popular in that time period. A “B” apartment being a property that was typically built in the 80s, has W/D connections, brighter colors on the inside with more light than a “C” apartment too, and “B” properties are frequently gated. Why would you want to pay on average $100+ a month to live in South Austin? Well for starters you are pretty close to downtown and Zilker Park. Getting to either of these is no sweat from pretty much any local area apartment. You also have convenient access to South Congress, which has many eclectic stores and restaurants to eat at, all within walking distance of one another. The bus system is also extremely good all over South Austin, meaning you can get around pretty much anywhere without a car. Many of the restaurants and places of business in the area are privately owned, with only one or maybe two locations that are located in Austin only. To some people this is a very nice advantage, as it gives the community a smaller feel. The culture of this part of town is definitely a lot different. Some people believe that the vibe of South Austin is more laid back than other Austin areas. Great restaurants abound in and around these apartments. One of my personal favorites in South Austin for BBQ is Art’s Rib House. Art’s has been around a long time and continues to produce some of the tastiest BBQ in Austin. Art’s also features some local bands and well-known country stars from time to time. If these qualities sound like something that would be very important to you then you should definitely consider finding your next apartment in South Austin. Even though I did speak at length about the “B” and “C” Apartments that populate this location, there are plenty of beautiful “A” properties as well, some with great deals or move-in specials! It all comes down to knowing where to look. With many tucked away South Austin apartments, you need someone to help find them all.
